About Me

"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. you must do the thing which you cannot do."
Eleanor Roosevelt
I am a Runner...it has taken me a long time to identify with this. I don't do well with labels, but this is becoming one I am learning to embrace. While on the subject of labels, here is another one...I have Lupus. Notice the difference however, one I am and one I have. My Lupus does not define me, but it certainly is a part of me.
I was diagnosed in 2001 at 22 years of age. Since that time I have witnessed the disease take many forms, but luckily I have been able to maintain my running through most of it.  In all honesty, it is the memory of not being able to run (or walk, or feed myself) that gets me out the door for runs one the days when all I want to do is not! I don't know what the future holds for me, but what I do know is that in this moment I can run, so I do!

I live on a beautiful island in Victoria, BC with my husband and two furry companions, Maggie and Macy. Together we spend most of our time in two place...On the trails and in the kitchen!  My background is in holistic nutrition and my husband is a chef (trained in French Cuisine), what a combo, indeed.

Over the years I have met some of the most amazing people through running and sports and am continually inspired and humbled by their accomplishments. My hope is that no matter what your fitness level you will join our community (through training or donation).
LaceUp4Lupus is a place for us to come together and share our goals, our challenges and our passion for running (and walking) while working towards a healthier life for people living with this disease.
